Keeping your browser up to date ensures better security, performance, and access to the latest features. Here's how to check for and install updates in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
🌐 Google Chrome
Option 1: Look for the Update Prompt
- Open Chrome.
- Check the top-right corner of the browser window.
- If an update is available, you’ll see a colored icon (green, orange, or red) or a message prompting you to update.
- Click the icon and select “Update Google Chrome”.
- Click “Relaunch” to complete the update.
Option 2: Manually Check for Updates
- Open Chrome.
- In the address bar, type:
chrome://settings/help
- Press Enter.
- Chrome will automatically check for updates.
- If an update is available, it will download and prompt you to Relaunch.
- If you're already up to date, it will say “Google Chrome is up to date.”
🧭 Microsoft Edge
Option 1: Use the Menu
- Open Edge.
- Click the three dots (⋯) in the top-right corner.
- If an update is available, you may see a red dot or a message like “Update available”.
- Click “Update Now”.
- Edge will restart to complete the update.
Option 2: Manually Check for Updates
- Open Edge.
- In the address bar, type:
edge://settings/help
- Press Enter.
- Edge will automatically check for updates.
- If an update is available, it will download and prompt you to Restart.
- If you're up to date, it will say “Microsoft Edge is up to date.”
