When the built-in MW-CMS OCR is not working well on a document, follow these steps to try the OCR from Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Open the document in MW-CMS.

- Use the printer icon to print the document.

- Select “Microsoft Print to PDF” as your destination.

- If that option isn’t there, select the “See more…” option.
- After that, you should be able to see/select the “Microsoft Print to PDF.”

- After selecting, “Microsoft Print to PDF”, click the “Print” button at the bottom of the pop-up.

- When prompted to save the document, save it somewhere you will be able to find later.
- Consider creating a “DeleteMe” folder on your desktop that you can save the document to. Medical Records should not be saved locally longer than when you need them to complete your task. This DeleteMe folder would be a reminder to clear the folder out daily.
- In order to open the document in Adobe, find where you saved it.
- Once the document is located, click the document once(highlighting it) and then right-click it.
- After right-clicking it you should see and option labeled, “Open with.” Click it and select the adobe option.

- If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Pro, you’ll need a manager to submit a ticket requesting a license for you.
- In Adobe Acrobat Pro, find the page that you want to copy from.

- From the tools panel, select Scan & OCR.

- If that option is not already there, select the more tools option.

- After that, find the “Scan & OCR” option.
- Then click the “Add” button.

- Then navigate back to your document.

- If that option is not already there, select the more tools option.
- From the Scan & OCR toolbar, click Recognize Text.

- From the Recognize Text dropdown menu, select “In this File.”

- On the second Recognize Text toolbar that shows up below the Scan & OCR one, select Current Page on the Pages dropdown menu.

- To OCR the whole document, leave the dropdown menu set to All Pages.
- Click the blue Recognize Text button on the Recognize Text toolbar.

- Wait a moment for the OCR progress bar on the bottom right of the window to finish.
- Once the OCR has completed, highlight and copy the text you need.
